Professor Valerie Hazan, Professor of Speech Sciences, discusses what UCL looks for in applicants and the future prospects for those studying the MSc in Language Sciences. Many postgraduates continue into further academic research, some progress in current careers as speech language therapists, whilst the transferrable skills developed help others go into other careers, such as management. Prospective students need to have a clear interest in the subject area and be able to demonstrate that they have an understanding of the programme. A quantitative background is helpful, but not essential.
