About Postgraduate Hospitality Management

Hospitality management is a popular professional field that relates to the management, enhancement and delivery of a range of hospitality services. This could be anything from food and drink to hotels, resorts, tours or experiences.

Postgraduate students will develop a deep understanding of their industry and build professional skills across operational, administrative and commercial management. It’s also possible to specialise in areas such as sustainable or international tourism management, as well as event management.

There are more than 60 programmes to explore at postgraduate level at over 30 UK universities, ranging from short postgraduate courses to full master’s degrees and research qualifications.

What to expect

Entry requirements vary depending on the university and course you’re interested in. You will usually need an undergraduate degree. Sometimes this needs to be in a relevant field such as hospitality, tourism or business management.

While course content varies hugely, some common topics that are covered include global hospitality, hotel management, managing and leading people, strategic marketing, cultural management, customer experience, food and beverage management, event marketing, consumer behaviour and more.

Graduates with a postgraduate degree in hospitality management can pursue a variety of careers in the hospitality industry. Some common job roles include hotel manager, front-office manager, banqueting manager, food and beverage manager, housekeeping manager, events manager, guesthouse manager, restaurateur, chef, caterer, entrepreneur, hospitality teacher, and more.
