About Postgraduate Diabetes Nursing

Diabetes nursing is an increasingly important medical specialism as the condition becomes more prevalent across the UK and the wider world. Requiring unique treatment, diabetes nursing students train to offer patients acute and ongoing care, referral services, lifestyle advice and instruction on the use of medication and equipment.

There are over 30 postgraduate programmes in diabetes nursing across 20 UK universities. These include MScs, PGDips, MRes, MPhils and PhDs.

What to expect

Entry requirements vary depending on the type of course you are interested in but you’ll usually need some recent relevant nursing experience and a related undergraduate degree.

Postgraduate students of diabetes nursing will build knowledge of the condition, its immediate and indirect causes, and the ongoing work to improve treatment methods.

Graduates may go on to be practitioners or researchers in diabetes care in hospitals or laboratory settings.
