About Postgraduate Non Profit Organisations: Management

Non-profit organisations management is the work of co-ordinating the operations of organisations dedicated to social causes rather than profit. This can include charities, educational institutions, activist societies and social advocacy groups.Non-profit managers work to fulfil the goals of the organisation and ensure its sustainability while meeting ethical and legal standards.

Typical entry requirements include a relevant bachelor's degree, preferably in business or a related field, with a minimum 2:2 classification. Experience in non-profit organisations within the UK or overseas at time of application is welcomed. There are five UK-based master’s degrees in non-profit organisations management, delivered at three universities. Each offers opportunities for professional specialism.

What to Expect

The field covers areas such as strategic planning, fundraising, volunteer coordination and financial management. The course equips students with leadership and strategic skills for effective management in the non-profit sector and the skills learned are highly organisational; therefore, widely applicable to business structures in a range of contexts.

You can expect to read a lot of case studies and learn through lectures, workshops and self-directed study, being assessed through project work, presentations and written essays. The master’s course works towards a final dissertation project, which you will write under the guidance of your academic tutor.

The master’s course is accredited by the UK-based Institute of Leadership and Management and after graduation, you’ll be well-prepared for roles in charity management, social enterprise and community development.
