In October, two members of the fire research group, Nicholas Doyle and Richard Emberley, gave presentations at the 10th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology in Tsukuba, Japan.
Nicholas Doyle presented the work he completed for his undergraduate thesis in 2014. His presentation was entitled “Fire Behaviour of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) Slabs: Two-way Action.”
The title of Richard Emberley’s presentation was “Components and Consequences of Cross-Laminated Timber Delamination.” The information in his presentation was details on part of the work from his ongoing PhD research.
The conference allowed both Richard and Nicholas to meet members of the wider fire safety community at not only the conference dinner and welcome reception but also during the various sessions of the multi-day event. Two of the highlights of the conference were the laboratory technical tours at Tokyo University of Science and the Building Research Institute. The trip also allowed them to see Japan for the first time.
