Daan Van den Broecke obtained the David Sugden Award for his work investigating the Effectiveness of Sprinklers in Road Tunnels. Daan recently completed the International Master of Science in Fire Safety Engineering (IMFSE), and developed his research project and thesis with the UQ Fire research group; the project was supervised by Dr Cristian Maluk and Prof Jose L Torero. Daan’s work was supported by UQ Fire and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES).
In 2004 the Australasian Tunnelling Society started the David Sugden Award to encourage young engineers to develop the art of technical writing. The award includes complimentary conference registration fees, personal travel and accommodation costs at the ITA World Tunnel Congress to be held in Bergen, Norway from 9-16 June 2017.
