UQ Fire is delighted to once again run the Graduate Certificate on its 2017 version, hosting a selected group of firefighters from the Australian Fire and Emergency Services and providing them with a comprehensive training on the fundamentals of fire safety theory. During the past two weeks and the ongoing one, we have been transferring key knowledge on:
- Fire dynamics background, theory and gaps (FIRE6000, FIRE6020, FIRE6030, FIRE6040)
- Laboratory testing and its challenges (FIRE6050), and
- Prescriptive and performance based design (FIRE6060, FIRE6070)
Through lectures, workshops, assignments and extensive laboratory work, we have shared our knowledge with the fire brigade, but have also gained a valuable insight into their perspective on fire safety issues and the challenges that they face, both as firefighters and as approvals officers.
We are happy to have this opportunity to enrich the fire brigade knowledge and also to strengthen our relationship with them and therefore our research.
