Last Thursday 8th of March, The SFPE – UQ Student Chapter hosted Mr James O’Neill (Holmes Fire) for a lecture entitled “Fire Engineering in Practice”. His presentation gathered an audience that included undergraduate students, post graduates and lecturers from UQ’s fire safety engineering programme, who had an opportunity to discuss the current practice of fire engineering in Australia.
Mr O’Neill’s presentation draw particular attention as he provided an overview of his involvement in cutting edge projects during his 5 year experience working with one of the world’s leading consultancy firms. Students and academics alike appreciated his insights on the use of cutting edge modelling software and other advanced technologies towards solving new challenges that emerge from an ever changing build environment.
The fruitful conversation and exchange of ideas continued on after his presentation, as all attendants enjoyed a networking session with food and drinks courtesy of UQ’s Fire Research Group.
