On Friday 5th of April 2019, the SFPE UQ Students Chapter hosted RED fire engineers, who shared a presentation regarding Performance-based fire engineering design of timber buildings. This being a highly relevant topic now days drew good assistance from our researchers, students and lecturers. On behalf of RED, the seminar was conducted by Carl Pettersson, Senior Fire Engineer and office manager for the RED NSW office.
The seminar led to a discussion between the audience and RED engineers regarding current limitations of timber constructions and the way in which their risk can be assessed and treated. The seminar was followed by an evening networking opportunity in which RED senior and junior engineers shared their experience with UQ Fire researchers.
We look forward to a next seminar hosting RED and showcasing a timber case-study, and thank them for their time and willingness to share their experience and knowledge.
