WSP, Tunnels and Fire at SFPE

SFPE UQ Student Chapter was grateful to host Craig Hiscock, Principal Fire Engineer at WSP, last Monday 13th of May.

Craig talked about the challenges in designing, construction, commissioning and maintaining tunnels. He shared with us many examples learned from his experience, and the importance of using fire-engineering tools to influence this field and achieve better underground transport infrastructure for Australia.

As a highlight of this talk, Craig spoke about the great importance to communicate and collaborate with all the disciplines that are related during the design phase, construction phase as well during the maintaining phase. If we plan together since the beginning and we include the Fire Safety Strategy is the initial stages, the risks can be better managed and solved beforehand.

We are very thankful to have Craig and WSP sharing with us all of their knowledge in Tunnels. We also want to thank the School of Civil Engineering and UQ Fire for sponsoring us and supporting us in these activities.

Stay tuned for our next SFPE UQ Chapter Seminar, as we learn together and bring together Industry and Academia.
