Congratulations to our 2020 Summer Graduates!

Want to congratulate our most recent graduates who where awarded their degrees during the December 2020 graduation The University of Queensland (held online due to COVI-19 restrictions).

Also, the School of Civil Engineering awarded Ms Rosy Hartl with the 2020 Most Outstanding Student in Fire Safety Engineering and also with the runner-up award for 2020 Best Research in Master of Engineering…very well done Rosy!

Doctor of Philosophy

  • Dr Andrea Lucherini was awarded a PhD with a thesis entitled “Fundamentals of thin intumescent coatings for the design of fire-safe structures” supervised by Dr Cristian Maluk, Prof. Jose Torero (now at UCL, UK), and Dr Juan Hidalgo.

  • Dr Angela Solarte was awarded a PhD with a thesis entitled “Fire performance assessment for the design of safe laminated bamboo structures” supervised by Dr Juan Hidalgo, Prof. Jose Torero (now at UCL, UK), and Dr Cristian Maluk.

  • Ms Jessica Barton was awarded a BEng-MEng with a thesis entitled “Fire Service Fatalities during Wildland Fires in Australia: A review of case studies” supervised by Dr Cristian Maluk.
  • Mr Michael Cheung was awarded a BEng-MEng with a thesis entitled “Adhesives used in Laminated Timber at Elevated Temperatures” supervised by Dr Cristian Maluk.
  • Ms Rosy Hartl was awarded a BEng-MEng with a thesis entitled “Comparative Fire Study Between Plasterboard and Intumescent Coatings Used in Mass Timber Structures” supervised by Dr Cristian Maluk.
  • Mr Brett McGiveron was awarded a BEng-MEng with a thesis entitled “Fire performance assessment of native Australian wood species” supervised by Dr Felix Wiesner.
  • Mr Bernabe Zaragoza Solis was awarded a MEngSc with a thesis entitled “Finite Element Modelling of a Timber-FRP Hybrid Beam” supervised by Dr Cristian Maluk.
